Александр Боровик – Шёпотом

Posted in Blues, Jazz, Rock, Александр Боровик on February 6, 2010 by M2

Alexander Borovik comes from the rap scene, but with this record he moved in a new direction of rock, blues and jazz. And he has done an amazing job. This an album close to my heart. So far the best i have heard this year. For some of you Russian music might be a bit out there. Open your heart to the sound and i wouldn’t be suprised if you fell in love this record as i have. Enjoy this gem!

Tm Juke And The Jack Baker Trio Present Boto And The Second Liners

Posted in Broken Beat, Nu-jazz, Soul, Tm Juke And The Jack Baker Trio on February 5, 2010 by M2

This one was suggested by Daniel Kachvartanian. It was the first and only suggestion in the participation article. Enjoy it.

TM Juke and The Jack Baker Trio present ‘Boto And The Second Liners’. A feast of carnival-spirited songs, this is an original album of pure party music that pays homage to the different rhythms of the Americas, moving from the ’80s New York street party feel of junkyard, go-go music and old school inspired hip hop; through the funk and soul of Memphis and the Mardi Gras of New Orleans; and south to Latin America and Brazilian samba. The record boasts some great guest performers – most notably singers Alice Russell, Kathrin deBoer of Belleruche and Andreya Triana, and genre-bending Spanish singer Gecko Turner (Lovemonk).

Bei Bei & Shawn Lee – Into the Wind

Posted in Bei Bei & Shawn Lee, Electronic, Fusion, World on January 29, 2010 by M2

Very, very interesting project! The sounds of the harp, New Age rhythm and Chinese motifs in the melody makes this music truly exquisite!
Watch out for new music by Bei Bei and UK producer Shawn Lee which marries a unique blend of ancient tradition with studio trickery and spiritual jazz. This uplifting, genre-bending, soundclash recalls the afrocentric harping of Dorothy Ashby, the hypnotic style of Alice Coltrane, and the organic electronics of Four Tet and Quantic.

direct download link removed on labels request.

Check it out on their website - Bei Bei & Shawn Lee – Into the Wind. And check them out on YouTube. It will give you a pretty good idea of the whole feel of the album.

A.G.Trio – Zombies In The Disco

Posted in A.G.Trio, Dance, House, Techno on January 29, 2010 by M2

After a series of remixes, “Zombies In The Disco” is the first own release of the Upper-Austrian A.G.Trio. The three protagonists Andy Korg, Roland von der Aist and Aka Tell – known for their solo-projects – bring in an enjoyable, partly ironic and laid back approach to dance-music.  The EP presents the typical A.G.Trio style, approved in numerous live-shows. A characteristic mixture of House, Techno and Breaks shrugging off style-purism and prepared for real partys.

Participate!?!

Posted in Announcements on January 9, 2010 by M2

Hi all, lately it has been kind of slow with good new releases. And i haven’t come accross any “old” gems either. So you might have found something. Therefor i’m going to ask you to ask you what you like to see posted.  The first three who will write a reply with a (1) suggestion, i will post. Make sure to include the links to the albums as well. I’d love to post Tom Eno’s Barnstormer. But i haven’t been able to find a good link… look him up on youtube! It was a great suggestion by Goines.

Top 10 Releases 2009

Posted in Announcements on December 30, 2009 by M2

So here it is, after listening to 237 albums I boiled it down to the top 10 releases of 2009. The last 50 were the most difficult to sort through. There were some albums that i expected to make the top 10, but they didn’t… Movits was one of those bands, but there just weren’t enough good songs on the album. I was expecting the new Stereophonics album to make the cut as well, it is definately good, but too average for this top 10. Here it goes;

  1. Parov Stelar – Coco
  2. Lee Fields & The Expressions – My World
  3. Ibadi – Songs for Ophelia
  4. Zee Avi – Zee Avi
  5. Excellent Gentlemen – Just Say Yes
  6. Piano Magic – Ovations
  7. Cayetano – The Big Fall
  8. Destruments – Shaped by the Sound
  9. David Sylvian – Manafon
  10. Sepiamusic – Trenches

I’d like to thank everyone who participated here this past year. Have a truely wonderfull 2010. Go out rocking!

p.s. I’d really love it if you would post your own top 10 in the comments. Keep on sharing the great taste!

The Jive Aces – Recipe For Rhythm

Posted in Blues, Jazz, Swing, The Jive Aces on December 19, 2009 by M2

Imagine the point where swing meets rock ’n’ roll and you’ve something of the measure of the infectious, high-energy sounds of The Jive Aces.
Their distinctive jump jive fusion salutes the golden age of the big bands, takes in rhythm and blues, adds a dash of boogie-woogie and stirs in lashings of good humour and feelgood factor.

Daniel Lemma – Rebound

Posted in Blues, Daniel Lemma, Pop on November 20, 2009 by M2

This truly is one of the best artists around imho. This is different from his previous work, it has evolved! I have only heard a few tracks and already it’s a favourite.

Daniel Lemma is a Swedish singer-songwriter born 1970. He is currently a member of the band Mo Blues. Daniel is originally from Nyhamnsläge in Skåne, Sweden, but nowadays lives in Gothenburg. Lemma’s biggest hit is the song If I Used To Love You which he both wrote and sung himself. The song is also the theme for Josef Fares movie Jalla! Jalla! from 2000.

Thanks, Rickard for this suggestion. The first track reminds me of Paul Simon or Xavier Rudd, but he has a great sound of his own.

Movits! – Äppelknyckarjazz

Posted in Hip-Hop, Jazz, Movits!, Swing on November 13, 2009 by M2

Movits!

“Django guitar, windy street swing; music for both art directors and your mom” is how MOVITS! describe their sound. Well-known in Sweden, but unheard of elsewhere, they fold together elements of 1930’s big band swing, roma swing and rhythm & blues, then drop hiphop vocals on top for some serious energetic firepower.

Kent – Röd

Posted in Alternative, Indie, Kent, Rock on November 7, 2009 by M2

Kent

They are Swedish alternative rock band founded in Eskilstuna in 1990, with the name Coca-Cola Kids. The band has had several big Swedish radio hits since the breakthrough single “Kräm”, from their second studio album. They are one of the most popular rock groups in Sweden, and describes themselves as “Sweden’s biggest rock band”, but are more or less unknown outside Scandinavia. Kent shortly attempted an international career with English versions of the albums Isola and Hagnesta Hill with accompanying U.S. tours for the former, but they gave up after not reaching the breakthrough they had hoped for.

Kent has been one of my favourite bands for a few years now. And they deserve some more international attention. I have all their album including the english ones. And i must say i prefer the swedish versions. So give this a try and fall in love with it.
