Dear fellows

Posted in Announcements on June 11, 2009 by M.Borgomani

I’ve been lacking attention to La Musique. I know. There are some requests I failed to meet and some broken links I forgot to fix, but this will change. I am deeply sorry. I’ll post new albums, fix some links and try hard to find the ones that have been requested. I see some of you are waiting for Miike Snow and I’m really sorry, but I’ve not found anything new so far. My luck might change on the upcoming days and I hope it does so I can post it here for you guys.

I don’t think I’m the only one to notice this, but there are so many new bands every day. It’s hard to follow and I’m not into everything new so I find myself stuck listening to the same things. My question is: What have you been listening to? What’s been in your iPod lately? What bands/albums do you turn the volume up to?

Take a minute to answer this simple question. Help me here, peeps!

I’ll see you around. Have a lovely day :)

M.

Kings Of Leon – Only By The Night

Posted in Alternative, Indie, Indierock, Kings Of Leon, Rock on April 29, 2009 by M.Borgomani

Kings of Leon are an American alternative rock band. The members of the band are Anthony Caleb Followill, Michael Jared Followill, Ivan Nathan Followill, and Cameron Matthew Followill, however, the band members go by their middle names. After various jobs, the brothers moved to Nashville in 1996. They formed a band in 2000 with their cousin Matthew Followill. The band claims that their music was influenced equally by their religious upbringing and Jack Daniels Whiskey. Caleb recalls listening to “Crimson and Clover” by Tommy James and the Shondells with his uncle, and cites it as the song which really made him pay attention to popular music. This song is later referred to in ‘California Waiting’ with the lyric “crimson and clover pulling overtime”. They were members of the West Tennessee Choir for a short time mainly assigned to falsetto ranged harmonies.

After recording throughout most of 2008, the band released their fourth studio album Only by the Night on September 19, which on subsequently entered the UK Albums Chart at number one and remained there for 4 weeks, with sales of 1,524,185 copies, achieving 5 times platinum status. The album was released on September 23 in the USA and reached number 5. The album was officially named as the UK’s third biggest selling album of 2008 and the biggest selling album of 2008 in Australia.

Animal Collective – Merriweather Post Pavillion

Posted in Animal Collective, Experimental, Indie, Indierock on March 12, 2009 by M.Borgomani

Merriweather is the soundtrack for the ultimate hippie/ambient tribal dance party, a giddy, freewheeling, psychedelic beast of an album, full of big beats, trippy drones and glistening synths dancing around the band’s rich, reverb-drenched, fugue-like vocal layers. (That’s the album’s equally tripped-out cover above.) From opening track “In the Flowers,” where dreamy swirls of guitar explode into an avalanche of battering-ram percussion, to closing cut “Brother Sport,” whose sunny vocals and gleeful synthesizers skitter across syncopated grooves before mutating into minimalist ambient-house, this is an album of endless sonic surprises. While tracks like the low-key “No More Runnin’ ” are more conventionally song-oriented, the focus here is on constantly shifting textures and moods, like the central riff of “Daily Routine,” which sounds like a bowling ball being thrown for a strike across the keys of an organ, or the moment on “Guys Eyes” that suggests nothing so much as a backwards loop of a piano being dropped from the roof of a monastery.

Merriweather Post Pavilion track list:

“In the Flowers”
“My Girls”
“Also Frightened”
“Summertime Clothes”
“Daily Routine”
“Bluish”
“Guys Eyes”
“Taste”
“Lion in a Coma”
“No More Runnin’ ”
“Brother Sport”

Actress – Hazyville

Posted in Actress, Electronica on March 12, 2009 by M.Borgomani

We know we say this a lot, but this one’s seriously been a long time coming, building expectation levels to an unprecedented high. The incredible talents of Actress have previously only appeared on a pitifully small but perfectly formed number of releases, from his inception to our personal ‘Rhythm Hall Of Fame’ with his ‘No Tricks’ 12″ way back in 2004, to remixes for Various Production and Alex Smoke, Mr Cunningham’s output has remained meagre but incredibly well respected. A good amount of his time has been taken up running the well established Werk Discs imprint, a label borne from the aftermath of his Hyperdub night with Steve Goodman some 6 years ago, presenting convention challenging acts like Zomby, Radioclit, Lukid, or Disrupt for our pleasure ever since. He’s since found some spare minutes to assemble this amazing set of specialized Actress styles, inviting us into the a sonic universe encompassing heartfelt Detroit house and techno abstractions, post-bump R’n'B reconfigurations and ephemeral electronica in a truly idiosyncratic style. ‘Again The Addiction’ ignites the set with a production sounding like a more narcotic Kenny Larkin, it’s purely unhinged Detroit techno with a psyched sound design that will fry your head. ‘Doggin’ trips out on some warm and woozy Theo P style house vibes, while ‘Ivy May Gilpin’ is the first of a number of tracks which seriously remind us of the brilliant NWAQ album ‘The Dead Bears’ in the best way possible with a submerged and percussive house vibe achieved by very few. ‘I Can’t Forgive You’ sits deep at the bottom of this particular ocean with an ultra slow and vibing track, flowing with slowly shifting chord changes and decorated in deliciously mottled FX textures to reduce you to a stunned mess, while ‘Redit 124′ brings us to the earlier sound of the ‘No Tricks’ EP with a razor edited 313 glitch ‘n jack track sounding like Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir in his prime. But it’s title track ‘Hazyville’ that’s the real showstopper, a massively crushing electro variation that cleverly uses the compression tools at his disposal to squeeze out every last drop of robo-funk and static coated synthline pressure he can manage, turning in a truly sick wriggler that we’ve had on repeat for weeks. If you’re still with us, check out ‘Green Gal’ at the end, again reminiscent of that NWAQ psyche house sound, bleeping and churning with a charcter of it’s own but relentlessly deep and involving to the point of emotional implosion. This album has completely lived up to the hype we’d given it inside our own heads and if you can’t be arsed checking the samples, just trust us that this is the finest blend of Theo Parrish, NWAQ & Flylo style rhythm magic that you’re going to hear all year, or quite possibly the next for that matter! Onwards…
